Sand Filter Information

Multi-Port Positions And Their Function

Filter: This is the valve position for normal filtration and is also the one used for regular vacuuming.

Backwash: Used for cleaning the sand in the filter. When the filter pressure gauge rises 10 to 12 pounds above the start-up (or clean) pressure. Stop the pump and turn the valve selector handle to backwash.' start pump and backwash until water clears. This takes 2 to 3 minutes or less, depending on dirt accumulation.

Rinse: After back-washing, with pump off, turn the valve selector handle to "rinse," start pump and operate for 30 seconds. This assures that all dirty water from backwashing is rinsed out of the filter to waste, preventing possible return to the pool. Stop pump, turn the valve selector handle to "filter," and start pump for normal filtering

Waste: Used to bypass the filter and go directly out the backwash. For draining or lowering the water level and for vacuuming heavy debris directly to the backwash.

Re-circulate: Water is returned to the pool. Bypassing the filter.

Closed: Shuts off all ports.
